Responsible for supporting day-to-day information security operations and assigned projects. Major functions include information security risk management, providing oversight on monitoring intrusion detection and prevention systems, vulnerability assessments and remediation, and security policy enforcement. Assist in analysis, troubleshooting and resolution of complex information security problems that impact the organization at the data, application, service, operating system and network levels. Assist with the development, monitoring, and enforcement of policy and practice standards to ensure that UT Arlington’s resources and information are secure from unauthorized access, protected from inappropriate alteration, physically secure, and available to users in a timely fashion.
1.Assist with: information security risk management; develop or implement risk assessments, risk identification methods, track controls, risk ranking, risk disposition, etc.; network and web vulnerability identification, threat and attack mitigation, intrusion detection and prevention and remediation plans; response to security events and escalations.
2.Assist with monitoring the security of specific components or supporting infrastructure. Assist with or implement and/or tunes Intrusion Prevention Systems, Intrusion Detection Systems, vulnerability scanning, Security Incident Event Management (SIEM), log analysis, firewall rules, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), identity management, access management, risk assessments, encryption, sensitive data discovery, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Mobile Device Management MDM) and/or other related functions as assigned. Support security equipment to ensure proper operation including upgrades and installations. Reports, records, and works with departments to resolve security related issues and incidents. Provide direct forensic investigations and/or manage third party forensic investigations.
3. Provide enterprise and cloud architecture – partner across business and technology disciplines to present and deliver the secure architecture. Provide guidance on the application of reference architecture (cloud or on premises), strategic direction of enterprise technology, and serve as subject matter expert with contextual knowledge of the business needs. Develop, document and utilize reusable patterns, practices, and enterprise reference architectures that fit within the overall UTA architecture.
4.Assist with the development of requirements for, and take part in, information security projects. Provide strategic direction and consulting to support cross-functional security activities and project teams including security strategy, solution, architecture, technology products, design and implement security architecture, infrastructure hardening and compliance. Assist the security team in support of information security projects and requirements, including project management and testing of security projects and applications. Interface with OIT and non-OIT personnel to resolve security related issues.
5.Auditing for compliance of security related policies and procedures, including development of databases and applications to assist in reporting compliance metrics.
6.Support the development and implementation of security awareness training programs. Performs other duties assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field with 2 years cumulative experience in networks, databases, security, web development or other IT related field with at least 1 year experience with information security or risk management or the equivalent experience. Team-oriented self-starter with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Strong oral/written communications and interpersonal skills. Excellent planning and organizational skills. A high degree of initiative, motivation and problem-solving skills. Technical knowledge of operating systems, defense-in-depth concepts, networks, security related technologies, and security configurations. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Linux/UNIX systems, firewalls, TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, access management, encryption, configuration management, vulnerability scanning, and application security best practices.
Master's degree preferred. Certifications related to the duties and responsibilities specified, including but not limited to CNA, CCNA, CISA, CISSP, MCSE, SSCP, and SANSGIAC. Experience with web development, scripting, and/or programming. Working knowledge of AWS or Azure significant plus. Experience with toolsets such as, but not limited to: Stateful firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems and Intrusion Prevention Systems (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto); Host Based Security Systems (Trend Micro, Symantec, MacAfee); Security Event And Incident Management (Splunk); DNS Security Practices; Advanced Log Analysis; Network Monitoring; Network Flow Analysis; Packet Capture Analysis; Network Proxies; Firewalls; Anti-Malware Analysis; Linux Or Unix Command Line; Linux Or Windows OS Administration And Access Control Lists Desired; Enterprise Security And Network Engineering Knowledge To Integrate Capabilities In Order To Provide A Cohesive Operating Picture Of Defense-In-Depth, Desired. Direct working knowledge and experience with Splunk. Working, practical experience, with at least one of the following: Juniper or Cisco Firewalls, TippingPoint IPS, Snort or Sourcefire IDS, vCenter Configuration Management Software, IBM Bigfix, puppet, WinMagic, Watchfire or IBM AppScan, Cenzic Application Scanner, Oracle/Peoplesoft security, MySQL, MS SQL, LDAP, Kerberos, Active Directory, Apache, IIS, Nessus vulnerability scanner, Sendmail, IronPort, Email Encryption, Identity Finder, Data Loss Prevention tools, SMTP, SNMP, Perl, Unix Shell, C, C++, PHP, or Java.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLSANDABILITIES: Networking: OSI & TCP/IP models, CIDR, Packet analysis. Encryption concepts, Data Forensics Concepts. Operating System structure. Database structure, webserver/host communication.
