Reporting directly to NYU's Global CIO, the Associate VP Global Chief Information Security Officer leads the Office of Information Security (OIS), which is a high performance and highly technical team charged with the responsibility of mitigating cyber risks, analyzing threats, minimizing the likelihood of a breach, and maintaining compliance with information security regulatory requirements for all of NYU. OIS aims to evolve the maturity of the NYU Information Security Program through people, process and technology while maintaining alignment with university initiatives, IT goals and core beliefs. OIS is made up of several functional areas including Operations Planning & Strategy, Security Architecture & Engineering, IT Risk Management, Detect Response & Forensics, IT Policy & Compliance and Security Awareness & Outreach. As part of the Detect Response team, the role of the Information Security Analyst is to identify, isolate, and resolve potential information security issues so as to reduce the probability of conditions arising in which a threat can take advantage of a vulnerability, thereby increasing the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information systems. The Information Security Analyst develops and implements technical tools, processes and standard operating procedures to improve information security effectiveness; researches and advises staff on information security issues and trends: provides support in determining applicable information security controls; performs remediation action including, but not limited to information security investigations based on critical alerts, security bulletins and/or high confidence security threat intelligence; supports IT risk management processes; and applies a proactive threat-hunting approach to daily security operations.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Information Security/Assurance, Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or other related field.
Required Experience: 3+ years 3 - 5 years of relevant information security experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of one year hands-on direct experience within information security.
Preferred Experience: Monitoring of security infrastructure e.g. firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and gateways for emails and web traffic. and Assisting users in distress in a professional and courteous manner and Ability to quarantine users and isolate computer systems and Experience with vulnerability management, including scanning and reporting and Working knowledge of security countermeasures and technologies to mitigate risks and Awareness of cloud security controls
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Thorough understanding of information security principles, concepts, and the inter-relatedness of technologies Strong knowledge of intrusion detection response processes, analysis, and hacking methods and techniques Ability to triage events, investigate, and escalate as appropriate Effective interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills adjustable to audience Critical thinking ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making and demonstrates a high commitment to quality.
