This role is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operation to most Information Security Office functions. Responsibilities include design, evaluation, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of security systems to ensure the protection of University data from unwarranted access and changes. Participate in the development of security practices, policies and strategies to mitigate risk and the prevention, detection and resolution of security incidents for the university community computing infrastructure including networks, servers, databases, applications, systems and end user devices. Promotes and delivers security-related training, documentation and awareness and provides guidance and work direction to other groups performing security-related tasks for Information Security
Duties include: 1.Security Operations – Under general supervision, work with customers on information security projects and project plans. Promote and follow standards, guidelines, policies, and best practices. Assist with the establishment of guiding principles and reusable methodologies for information security following security industry standards. Assist the University community to understand various business strategies related to Information Security and their associated risks. Work with Information Technology colleagues to understand application architecture, processes, and their associated risks. 2.Incident Management – With guidance, identify potential security threats through security monitoring and log review. Assist in containment of security incidents upon their discovery through individual isolation of systems, services, and/or accounts or through removal of materials. Follow-up with individuals to ensure the threat has been neutralized and, if appropriate, the service has been restored. Assist in providing technical forensics capabilities for all investigative areas of the university. Document and update response procedures. Log the actions taken during a forensic investigation. Review and assist in the approval of technical specifications and solution designs regarding security controls. 3.Risk Assessments – Assist in assessing the compliance and risk profile for new and existing information services and business processes dealing with information processing. Work with technical and functional staff to ensure new and existing services conform to security best practices. Recommend technical and physical security controls to ensure systems and business processes are at an acceptable level of risk and/or compliance. Assist in providing security-consulting services to the University community. 4. User Training – Assists in the development and delivery of IT risk & security awareness and compliance training programs. May guide users on the usage and administration of security tools that control and monitor information security.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field.
2-4 Years Information Security Technical experience Or 3-5 years of compatible IT systems/software engineering, architecture and 1-2 years of Security specific experience
