Position Summary Provide both meaningful insights and predictions from data, for the Department of Internal Audit. Under the direction of the Director of Internal Audit, expand the breadth and efficacy of the continuous auditing/monitoring program. Contribute to the Department of Internal Audit’s goal to stay current with cutting-edge data analytic trends and methodologies.
Essential Functions • Coordinate with Internal Audit management to design and develop a robust data analytic program • Identify and assess data sources • Collect, query, cleanse, validate, analyze, and report data provided from multiple sources, with both structured and unstructured data, for use in routine and complex problem solving • Independently perform sophisticated data analytics in a variety of environments using both structured and unstructured data • Help establish rules on data usage, data governance, and analytics capabilities • Provide both advisory and execution support in audits by identifying, developing, documenting, and executing audit analytics during all relevant stages of an audit • Engage with audit teams and stakeholders to understand business questions and translate requirements into an analytic approach • Develop data sets and extracts, data standards, and coding to ensure complete, accessible, and shareable data for internal audit projects and planning initiatives • Consult with auditors to develop and apply technical data analysis strategies, e.g., regression, data visualization, benchmarking, hypothesis testing, to enhance audits • Document all reports, work papers, and communications in a clear, concise, and accurate manner and communicate results • Produce compelling data visualizations to communicate insights and influence outcomes among a wide array of stakeholders, e.g., Tableau and Power BI • Collaborate with other Mecklenburg County departments’ data analysts, business analysts, etc., to foster continual learning and cross-pollination of skillsets • Actively research and advocate adoption of emerging methods and technologies in the data science and analytics fields, with the eye of continually advancing Internal Audit’s capabilities • Develop predictive analytics as requested • Conduct training related to data collection and analysis for department and team projects • Complete special projects, e.g., risk assessment analytics, and deliver presentations as requested • Partner with assigned audit teams to build expertise in the use of data analysis within the internal audit function
Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in a quantitative field such as Management Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Finance, or Mathematics, collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information, and drawing logical conclusions.
Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Finance, or Mathematics or similar field
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted: No Licenses and Certifications
