UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. The Enterprise Data & Integration unit (EDI) within UW-IT provides consistent and reliable architectures, guidelines, standards, tools, and services for analysis, design, integration, management, and delivery of institutional data. The EDI group manages, develops, and maintains institutional data resources with the Enterprise Data Platform including UW Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and UW Enterprise Web Services (EWS). The purpose of the unit is to provide information for decision-making to the university communities through various means such as secured data access via APIs and SQL clients, as well as through central business intelligence (BI) products and tools.
EDI is currently seeking a Senior Data Architect to connect business requirements with institutional data for decision making.
The Senior Data Architect is a data management professional experienced in business and data analysis and modeling, data profiling, data integration, data design, information delivery, and customer experience delivery.
The position requires depth of knowledge and proficient skills in enterprise data management principles and best practice, data design methodologies such as data vault, relational and dimensional data design, data lineage and data mapping, and current data technologies. The incumbent should have solid understanding of current industrial data architecture such as “data lake” and understand the implications of various technologies in the university environments.

The incumbent is expected to collaborate easily and effectively with other team members, such as Solution Architects, Information Architects, ETL Developers, and Business & Data Analysts. This position will also be outward facing to UW campus administrative and academic units for the assessment of critical information needs and for the promotion of standards and best practices in data design and data usage.
To be successful, the role needs to exhibit excellent qualities in understanding complex business processes and data relationships, and to be able to explain and diagram the data structures and business processes to both power users as well as those less steeped in enterprise data practices. The emphasis and focus of this position is on the “global view” of UW institutional data and the “blueprints” for this big-picture view.
