Under the general leadership of the Director of Strategy, Architecture, and Analytics (SAA), and in conjunction with other University areas and external organizations (as needed), the manager of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics is responsible for the university's overall EDW, data analytics and data integration service management (ETL, API). As a member of the ITS Management team, this person will work in a direct partnership with other ITS team members and university clients to improve the data management, data quality, and information management and services. As Manager of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, this person is responsible for developing environments for process automation, integrations, data transformation, data governance, and analytics. This position leads a team of analysts and developers who are responsible for the development, configuration, administration, and maintenance needs of the university's business intelligence and analytics products. Position Specific Accountabilities - Partner with offices to implement strategies that align ITS with the LMU business; understands the business context (trends and business strategy) and their impact on enterprise data information, data process, and service management strategies.
- Act as a leader and mentor of data management and business intelligence, including coaching, training, and career development for the team.
- Manage enterprise data and integration architecture and best practices in areas that include, but are not limited to, standards, principles, processes and methodologies, infrastructure, applications, quality, data modeling, etc.
- Engage and collaborate with senior leaders and peers in evolving enterprise data models ensuring they are viewed, interpreted, and used in a consistent and effective manner
- Contributes to the design of enterprise information solutions, including database design, ETL, API, and analytics.
- Reviews and approves the translation of business requirements into functional application specifications and logical data modeling requirements.
- Lead the team in developing standards, guidelines, and best practices for the organization regarding data management, business analysis, process improvement, and services
- Provide expertise on complex technical projects from concept through the analysis, design, and execution stages.
- Support requirements analysis by constructing complex models related to processes, data, workflow, use cases, etc., as needed to identify requirement specifications.
- Manage Integration Testing & UAT (User Acceptance Testing) test activities by ensuring defects are logged accurately, and issues are resolved appropriately.
- Determine specific project tasks and follow up with team members to ensure tasks are completed timely and in alignment with project objectives.
- Work with departments and business units across campus on improving business processes and strategic data technology initiatives.
- Assist the director of SAA with long-range planning and analysis of university IT needs to allow for maximum effectiveness.
- Consult and advise the director of SAA on the direction and emphasis of business intelligence and data analytics.
- Communicate to the university and external customers regarding enterprise data management and business process improvements.
- Undertakes active vendor management, particularly for issue escalation and troubleshooting of products.
- Represent LMU at professional organizations or associations and serve on committees as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requisite Qualifications - Typically, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or Business Administration or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities as needed to keep abreast of regulation, policy, and procedural changes.
- Minimum three (3+) years of experience in experience managing medium to large scale cross-functional enterprise technology projects that involved delivering business solutions, user interface design, data integration, and data warehouse.
- Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) best practices and methodologies, including Agile methodology.
- Experience with relational and dimensional database, reporting tools, such as Tableau
- Experience with the Data Warehouse and Talend.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills.
- Strong negotiating, listening, and superior interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Good project management skills.
