Established in 1923, Texas Tech University is a Carnegie R1 (very high research activity) Doctoral/Research-Extensive, Hispanic Serving, and state-assisted institution. Located on a beautiful 1,850-acre campus in Lubbock, a city in West Texas with a growing metropolitan-area population of over 300,000, the university enrolls over 40,000 students with 33,000 undergraduate and 7,000 graduate students. We have approximately 70 tenure track faculty and 60 non-tenure-track faculty. The college has approximately 5,800 undergraduate, 1,000 master’s, and 60 doctoral students. The Lyons School of Accounting is named after Terry Lyons, an alumnus whose family created a generous endowment to foster excellence in teaching, research, and service. The Lyons School employs 22 full-time faculty (seven Lecturers/Senior Lecturers, four Professors of Practice, and 11 tenured/tenure-track faculty) and nine doctoral students. Approximately 300 students enter the undergraduate accounting major each year, and approximately half of these students continue to earn their Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) degree.
