Departmental Overview Student Affairs IT (SAIT) provides technology leadership and support to the Division of Student Affairs; technical support, education, hands-on learning and leadership opportunities for students; and student advocacy and engagement in campus technology development. Effective July 1, SAIT is merging into Berkeley IT. While our core mission will remain, we are expanding our reach with the broader Berkeley IT framework. Maintains a positive relationship with other departments and personnel that will assist in the development, funding, promotion, and/or public relations of the University.  Supports the success and objectives of Berkeley IT. Provides training and coaching on Project Management methodologies, policies and procedures to staff and student teams. Responsible for the development and implementation process of the campus&#39; products and services involving departmental or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new or existing products Initiates, designs and leads the Request for Information (RFI)/Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Participates in the annual cycle of recruitment, hiring and training of student employees; shares responsibility for developing and sustaining a strong student leadership program. Identifies and selects training opportunities for professional development. Participates in cross-functional group discussions, activities and other training efforts. Adheres to University and departmental policies, procedures, and professional practices as well as city, state, and federal laws. Position description   The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in the UC Irvine Flood Lab  UCI Irvine Flood Lab  focused on flood risk change across Southern California. The successful candidate will conduct research on how multiple interacting factors - including land use change, ground subsidence, climate change, and compound hazard drivers - are reshaping flood hazards and risks across the region. The Flood Lab has a strong history of collaborating with local flood control districts, water and energy utilities, and state agencies to improve understanding of flood risks and response options, and this position offers an excellent opportunity to conduct impactful, applied research at the science-policy interface. Responsibilities The postdoctoral scholar will lead two major research thrusts. The first involves high-resolution hydrodynamic modeling of flood hazard change across Southern California watersheds driven by historical and projected land use change, with exposed population and property assessed on a decade-by-decade basis. The second involves development and evaluation of Monte Carlo-based methods for compound flood hazard assessment, including configuration of a rainfall emulator for Southern California and large-ensemble flood inundation simulations using the Parallel Raster Inundation Model (PRIMo). The researcher will also be encouraged to pursue independent inquiry into additional drivers of flood risk change, including climate-driven shifts in precipitation intensity and the effects of ground subsidence on flood channel capacity and inundation extent. Deliverables include peer-reviewed journal articles, technical reports, and publicly available datasets and online visualization tools. Qualifications Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in civil engineering, hydrology, earth sciences, or a closely related field.  Preferred qualifications: the ideal candidate will bring a combination of the following    Experience with computational hydrodynamic or hydrologic modeling (e.g., 2D flood inundation models, rainfall-runoff models)    Proficiency in remote sensing and GIS methods, including analysis of land use/land cover data, lidar-derived topography, and/or InSAR-based subsidence datasets    Strong hydrology and flood hazard expertise, with familiarity with probabilistic and scenario-based flood risk frameworks    Experience automating scientific workflows on high-performance computing (HPC) systems, including scripting, job scheduling, and large-scale data management    A track record of peer-reviewed publications and strong written communication skills This is a full-time, two-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding availability. Since receiving the CAE-CD designation, the Center for Cyber and AI has secured a portfolio of $85m in grants and scholarships focused on the cyber workforce. The ideal candidate for this position must have knowledge, skill, and interest in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence offered by the SC&#38;DS at CSUSB San Bernardino and at Palm Desert campuses. Candidates having a combination of both theory/research and applied/hands-on teaching experiences in the areas of Cybersecurity Management, Ethical hacking - SCADA/IOT, Forensics, Incident Response, applied AI, and hold Industry recognized certifications such as Security+, CISSP, etc. are a plus. A deep understanding of the Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber program as well as the critical workforce frameworks (Department of Defense Cyber Workforce Framework, NIST 800-181) is important for the candidate. Experience working with US Government partners in cyber defense is also desired. The successful candidate will also be expected to advise students, serve on Department, College and University Committees, contribute to and participate in the life and strategic priorities of the SC&#38;DS, and engage in the broader University disciplinary communities.
