The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the Information Technology (IT) staff. The colleges IT staff reports to this person. In addition to maintaining a timely workflow of projects and tasks, the associate director works closely with Information Technology Services (ITS) and the college community to execute the IT strategy and meet the goals of the college in its use and adoption of information technology. The role includes the collection and analysis of data to inform process improvement projects and compliance with regulations and internal policies.
The role oversees the effective deployment and inventory of hardware and software systems, managing user setups and ensuring the availability of reliable and advanced technical support. This role performs administrative duties including managing data security access. This role is responsible for providing end user support to users working on a variety of computing platforms including Windows and Mac based systems. This role provides maintenance and support on both the windows and the MAC platforms. The supervisory aspect of this role is critical in upholding the efficiency and effectiveness of the support services and cultivating a collaborative and proficient team atmosphere.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent technical and troubleshooting experience.
Skills and Knowledge:
Experience working collaboratively with diverse staff/constituents.
Excellent customer service skills; ability to build strong customer relationships.
Ability to coordinate projects/activities to completion (including planning, reporting, budgeting, delivery, cost tracking), problem solve and quickly adjust plans according to customers needs.
Strong oral/written communication and facilitation skills in large and small group settings.
Knowledgeable in cross-platform environments: Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, practical knowledge of educational/administrative software applications.
Experience with various technologies, hardware/applications (e.g. wireless laptops, tablets, student response systems, adaptive technologies, etc.).
Advanced experience with hardware and software platforms and systems including databases, networking equipment/concepts and other enterprise applications management.
Knowledge of cloud and virtualization concepts, best practices, troubleshooting techniques.
Knowledge of VMware vCenter Server administration preferred.
General knowledge of class/conference room, A\V troubleshooting and support, systems integration, scripting with PowerShell.
Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day activities of the colleges IT staff:
Manage the daily work of assigned staff including full-time, part-time, temporary, and student employees.
Ensure timely handling of incoming requests.
Work with individual staff to review and expedite their open requests.
Mediate any issues between clients and staff and ensure that client needs are met where possible. Collaborate with college and ITS leadership on project planning and goal setting.
Team Leadership and Organizational Development:
Champion the development of strong communication skills within the colleges IT staff.
Cultivate a respectful, positive work culture that encourages collaboration and new ideas, where all employees feel heard, appreciated, and equally valued.
Establish clear goals and expectations.
Effectively communicate with unit staff to provide regular constructive feedback and opportunities for improvement.
Conduct annual Performance Partnership processes to review progress, develop future goals, and identify professional development needs.
Model excellence by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior.
Enforce university and school policies, procedures, and cultural values.
Fulfill payroll and HR duties for the colleges IT staff.
Information Technology system management and oversight:
Respond to security incidents, monitors privilege access management issues, and mitigates IT security vulnerabilities and threats.
Administer server, desktop, and mobile computing environments.
Administer the computing endpoints at an organizational level, ensuring cross-departmental proficiency with key software suites like Microsoft and Adobe.
Ensure IT successfully builds, installs, maintains and troubleshoots the computing endpoints used by the college community, including the operating systems, configuration,
Lead IT Projects:
Lead projects executed by the colleges IT staff such as departmental upgrades, new software deployment and system changes.
Develop technical solutions based on faculty, staff, and student requirements, focusing on long-term manageability.
Prioritize work for the team.
Handle sensitive issues regarding data and SU property.
Collaborate with college stakeholders to ensure necessary technology is available for events, meetings and courses scheduled in college facilities.
Resource Management:
Manage the colleges budget for information technology, in partnership with ITS and college leadership.
Maintain an accurate asset inventory including hardware and software.
Lead the effective allocation of IT resources, such as peripherals, ensuring that equipment distribution supports the organizations operational needs.
Oversee the logistics of workspace organization and the maintenance and deployment of printers and multifunction devices, ensuring they meet the schools standards for facility management.
